10 Invitations a Week

I challenged the congregation this evening during our 6PM worship service to make it a point to invite 10 people this week to Church on Sunday. That would make it possible for 150 people to receive a personal invitation to Church this week. Who knows, just maybe 1 of those 10 would commit to attending. We would have an increase of 15 this coming Sunday. If 1/3 of that makes a decision to follow Christ, wow. After preaching the last three services on the nourishment doing God's work brings, the potential harvest, and the rewards for laborer's, I am excited about what could take place in the St George, SC community.

Time

The past few months have proven to be extremely busy. Working a full-time job and also being a Pastor has been rewarding and challenging in a lot of ways. I have found myself at times asking and or wishing for more time. In asking, I have realized my issue isn't needing more time, I have to become a better manager of the time I do have. After all it is all about being a better steward, right?

Condemnation Isn't Christian

At St George Church of God on Thursday nights, we discuss biblical truths and principals, which we can apply to our lives in order to be healthy productive Christians. This weeks topic is going to be on Condemnation. Mainly on how we as professing Christ followers should be quick to show the grace and love of Jesus instead of condemnation.

Qualities of a Leader from the Life and Ministry of Paul

In doing some prep work for my next MIP lesson for this week on 1 Thessalonians I came across and excerpt that is really worth sharing to those in ministry positions. Below is the paragraph straight out of my textbook A Journey Through the New Testament, edited by Homer G. Rhea.

1 Thessalonians 2: 8-12 gives insight into Paul and what it means to be leaders, pastors, and teachers in the church. Paul’s message was the gospel. His motive was to please God, not men. The manner in which he ministered was gentle – he was like a caring mother. Ministers are to be generous, share their lives with their people, provide guidance, like a father who encourages and comforts. Thus, the qualities of a leader like Paul are gentleness, generosity, and a spiritual guide. – Pg. 340: A Journey through the New Testament, Lesson 26 - 1 Thessalonians, By David C. Cooper, D.Min.

We've Been Appointed

For all you who were sitting on the edge of your seat wondering if Chanelle was pregnant due to the status I posted last night on Facebook, the answer is NO.

The news is just as exciting for us though, starting next weekend I will assume the role of Lead Pastor at the St. George Church of God located in St. George South Carolina. I was contacted by our State Administrative Bishop a little over a week ago about the opportunity and after talking, thinking, and praying we felt God's leading to accept. For now I will be bi-vocational, the position will require me to continue working here in Bluffton and commute on the weekends to St. George. Chanelle and I are stoked, we have been praying about an opportunity and completely amazed at the timing. At some point maybe I can sit down and have a cup of coffee with you and go through how God orchestrated this.

We are in the final few months of MIP so this ups the level of discipline that I will have to have as far as time management goes. The beginning of MIP started out the same way. As some of you may know, I was the Interim Pastor at the Hardeeville Church of God for the first 3 months of the program. I can't wait to share more in the coming weeks about what God is up to in our lives and in the lives of the congregation at the St. George Church of God. Please keep Me, Chanelle, Peyton and Julianna up in your prayers.

Who Should I Be Learing From

Needless to say, 2011 is in full swing. Think about it, in a few short days we will be in February. I don’t do a whole lot of new year resolutions on January 1. I normally wait to set out my goals/expectations around my birthday…which by the way if you were wondering is February 1. As I get closer to my 29th, my mind is more and more on what I want to accomplish, set into motion, and strive for as my last year in the twenties creeps up on me. The thought just occurred to me, next year this time I will be about to start a brand new decade. One of my goals is to find other people to learn from. Without having the ability to head out and meet everyone one by one for a cup of coffee, technology has given us the next best thing. Blogs and Podcasts! Would you mind letting me in on who I should be learning from? I am wanting to grow as a Husband, Father, Minister, and want to get into a healthy eating/exercise routine. Good Things to Those Who Ask

Have you ever needed something? Maybe something as simple as help with a move, or as difficult and time consuming as building a house. No matter how simple or vast the help may be, there is a common denominator with each request. The more likely you are to ask the more chances you are going to get help. In the same way, if you fail to ask you definitely will not receive the help. In order to receive you have to ask. In my devotional reading I focused on Matthew 7:7-11. In case you are unfamiliar with the passage here it is.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. “Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

It is hard for me to ask for help most times. I don’t mind giving my time, money, and resources to others but when it comes to me needing something I will most of the time do without rather than asking for help. God wants us to ask, God has good things for us however we must use our voice to ask. Sometimes how he wants to bless us is through others. I encourage you to ask, you never know what good things are heading your way when you do.

Get alone with God, away from the phone and distractions with only your Bible & a notebook. Take this time to seek God for a personal revelation and choose to follow Him in the specific area(s) that He speaks to. Listen & write down these results as you ask God to help you clearly focus on those area(s).
Ask the following: What does God want to accomplish . . . .
In me spiritually?
In my marriage?
In my finances?
In my physical body?
In my personal/emotional life?
Is God calling me to something new?
Jot down your thoughts, prayers and goal(s) as God is speaking to you.
Inquire more of Him. Settle not for anything less than His best.

God has not created us to be stagnant. We are called to be moving closer to him each and every day. I call this movement towards him a life of pursuit. A pursuit of Him and his will for our lives. In December of 2008 I was outlining goals that I wanted to obtain in 2009. I was praying about a yearly theme that would challenge and keep the goals in mind. I remember what first came to mind. Two words, IN PURSUIT. As time went by those words that started out as the guiding point of my year became what is now the Mantra of my life, Life of Pursuit. I want to motivate, mobilize, and mentor others to live a life in passionate pursuit of God.

First and foremost I am not perfect, I have made and continue to make my fair share of mistakes. However, I refuse to allow mistakes of my past keep me from fulfilling God’s will for my life. I hope that this blog will be a tool to spread the message of Christ and a resource for those who are want to go deeper in their faith. As this blog develops and takes shape I feel free to check out my previous posts HERE. So, in a sense this blog is a restart.

I am thankful for childhood memories. The other day I found myself looking back on summers spent with my Father in Virginia. We loved camping out. We would take off to a campsite or state park and hang out for day’s at a time roughing it in the woods. We are talking about tents, hammocks, packs, etc. The only thing we had was on our backs. Man it was great. However, that was long ago but the memories are still fresh in my mind of trekking along the Appalachian Trail for a couple of days here and there.

I feel pretty sure I am…a procrastinator! I have heard some describe being a procrastinator as a good thing and others as well, not good at all. We procrastinator’s say things like, “I work better under pressure…that’s why I wait to get started/finish a project” or “it’s at the last minute that I get my best revelation/action plan for getting something done.” Whatever the excuse we procrastinator’s know that we were called to be quick thinkers/late night work doers. What made me post about procrastinator’s? It’s simple, I have some books out that I need to be studying and lessons that need to be finished. Chanelle took the kiddo’s out for a bit so I could work with a little bit of quietness around the house. I shut the TV off and turned on some music (His Radio 91.9 in case you were wondering) and planned that 6-9 would be my study time. Chanelle and the kiddo’s have been gone for about 30mins and as of right now I should have started with my lesson 13 minutes ago and well, here I am writing a blog post about procrastination J

30 Days of Thanks :: Training

I am thankful for training. Until May 2011 I am involved in a Ministerial Internship Program within our Denomination. The training is good but it is exhausting. Currently I have a couple of hours worth of book work on Monday’s, Tuesday’s, Thursday’s, and Friday’s/Saturday’s. Also included is Monthly Seminars near Greenville, SC once a month on Friday Evenings and all day Saturday with tests. I also have to include that with having a full-time job (40 hrs/week), and a family (wife and two kids), the training is exhausting but needed and worthwhile. While there is a lot on the plate I am still thankful for training because it prepares you for the journey.

Famous Last Words

Until May I will be at Central Church, located on Hilton Head Island South Carolina, completing my Internship for MIP. Pastor Carr just finished a series called Famous Last Words and WOW...it was great. I was only able to catch the last two messages in the series in person but was able to go back and listen to the rest of them online. This is a must listen to series. I can't express how honored I am to be able to be a part of this community over the next few months. It’s not that I wake up in the morning and think to myself…

“Wow, today I would love a new trial” or “It’s been a while since I have had a trial, maybe today is my lucky day.”

Trials are hard, burdensome, and they really take a lot out of a person. However, here lately the more I read God’s Word I find that trials help strengthen a believers life and can be used to direct ones attention and trust in the one who can bring them out of the trial. I think it only appropriate to say, “I am truly thankful for the trials I have went through in life.” They have helped strengthen my faith in a God that loves and cares for His creation. My trials have helped me commit my way to His desire for my life. Have I screwed up from time to time…YES! Have I given in under the weight of some of my trials…YES! One of the main reasons I have is due to the fact I have taken my eyes off God and put the focus on my trials. Out of all of the mistakes and sin, I have come to know God’s forgiveness more and more. It’s not that I want to fall under the weight of the trials because I don’t. I want to strive everyday to live a consecrated holy life for God and His purposes. However, my victories and failures while going through my trials have become a testimony to the goodness, faithfulness, and grace of God. I encourage you, rejoice in your trials and be thankful for them. Read James 1

I am thankful for work, my job, etc is kind of a cliché thing to be thankful for right? I mean especially in this economy when so many are looking for jobs. If I can be honest, I really don’t like the company I work for but that doesn’t stop me from being thankful everyday for the crew I get to work with. Some people get up every morning and would rather work for another company and be part of another team. Even though I don’t like the company I work for my distaste for them is counter balanced by getting to work alongside some of the best co-workers an individual could have. Seriously! If I may describe the team a little bit.

“We are a ragtag group of individuals who come from very…very different backgrounds with a wealth of issues, mainly mental, j/k. Well, mostly!”

In our crew there is a wealth of knowledge, a team focus, and a real genuine care about making sure the job is completed and done right, no matter what it takes. We work hard and laugh a lot. There isn’t a day that goes by where at some point, whether it be 7:00AM at the start of the work day or 3:30PM when we are leaving the shop, that our sides aren’t hurting due to the laughter from something that is said or done by one of our other comrades. I really believe we are the face of what a team looks like and should be.

30 Days of Thanks :: Marriage

I Just spent the past few hours preparing the rough draft of a Wedding Ceremony I will be officiating in December. While reading through and prepping I drew illustrations and examples from many places and my mind kept going back to my own wedding ceremony in 2005. March 26, 2005 Chanelle and I had a simple ceremony in the living room of my Grandparents house dressed in blue jeans and t-shirts. Then three months later we had the ceremony for family and friends on June 25. I couldn’t help but think how thankful I am of Marriage. Not just marriage, but my marriage to Chanelle. The past five years have not been an easy road but we have made some awesome memories along the way. I don’t know what the next 5 or fifty years might bring but I am sure we will make some memories on the way. I am thankful that God instituted marriage in general but more specific I feel extremely blessed that he had Chanelle for me to share the rest of my life with.

In today’s society marriage is seen as nothing more than a returnable item. Marriages are being attacked in every way. Society focus more on what a marriage can give an individual rather than what the individual can give inside the marriage. A lasting marriage is not the norm in a lot of cases. Even among Christians and that is a shame. Marriage is more than a contract but a commitment and I am extremely thankful that I am on a journey with a wonderful wife. A journey that isn’t filled with smooth roads and clean pit stops. Sometimes this road is messy. Sometimes we find ourselves off of the route and have to ask for directions by other people who are farther along in the journey than we are. If there is any advice that I can give a couple on their wedding day it would be this…

I am thankful for Sloppy Joes. If you have ever had one you know why they are called that. The messier the better. I have been eating Sloppy Joes (as we called them as a child) since, well, before I can remember. It is seriously my favorite meal, with fries of course. My wife made some tonight for dinner. I often wonder, what would my life be like without the messiness of a Sloppy Joe. It surely wouldn’t be as good…at least dinner time wouldn’t be. Here is a little bit of fact for you from my life. Life is really busy right now. I find myself wishing for just a few more hours in the day, mostly wanting to use it for sleep. With work, filling in with the preaching responsibilities at Hardeeville, and add MIP in the mix there is not much time left for anything else. Alot of little things that I would like to be doing are fallng through the cracks. Some of the things I actually need to be doing. One of the good things about this season, I am being made aware of the importance of proper planning/scheduling. Which, is something I am not good at but it is a discipline I am having to develop in order to stay on top of everything I have to do.

What season of life do you seem to be in right now and how is this season stretching you in ways you are not use to? What new disciplines are you having to develop or implement?

In the past few weeks of filling in with the preaching responsibilities at Hardeeville, I have noticed that by Thursday's, I am wiped out. I guess it can be in part to work as well but whatever the reason, by Thursday, I am completely drained. I am beginning to learn what it means to pace yourself when you have a lot going on and how important it is to do so. I am going to blog in depth about that a little later when I get some solid time to gather my thoughts on it. For now, I am going to get some things prepared for this Sunday.

3 Weeks and 6 Services Later

Its been three weeks now that I have been filling in a Hardeeville Church of God. I believe that a lot has been accomplished in the lives of the members and super thankful to be fulfilling in the capacity that I am. It seems like the services keep getting better and the expectancy in the air is more intense week after week. I am still trying to get used to scheduling my time during the week between my full time day job, family, and message prep but God is faithful. Matter of fact, I quit trying to look for sermons. I am trying to preach more from what God is teaching me first hand via my quiet time. Once again, He is faithful.

We have managed to capture the audio of the Sunday services and will hopefully be getting those out via a podcast in the next few days or so. Hopefully they will help bring value to someones pursuit. Its been a busy weekend and a great day.

What About the Churches About To Close Their Doors

There is no doubt that we are still in an economical slump and our Churches are taking a hit as well. On the flip side, we have numerous churches being planted/starting each week but… We also have numerous Churches closing or thinking of closing their doors weekly also. Churches who wonder how they are going to keep going. I am sure there are many factors that go into a Church “Shutting Down” but the one thing that was really pressing hard on my mind this morning was the Churches that are about to close their doors. So today I am praying for those Churches. That God would revive those Churches to do a work in their community. Just one simple question, What about the Churches about to close their doors..for good?

Dafuskie This Morning a Party Tomorrow and I Still Hate Lightning Storms

Made it to the south end of Hilton Head first thing this morning to catch a boat to Dafuskie Island to do some work at the School. The sunrise was awesome to see as I made my way down the dock to the ferry. Captured a few pics on my phone that was amazing. Was able to take a brief tour of the island while on our way to catch the ferry to come back to the mainland. I am going to have to get back over there one Saturday and get some of the locals to take me around. All around it is a great place.

Julianna's first birthday party is tomorrow so we will be super busy with that pretty much most of the day. We have a pretty strong storm moving through tonight so I had to jump off the computer and settled to update from my phone. BTW, I despise lightning storms, always have and most likely always will. Yep, 28 and still not fond of them. I guess some things never change.

Shots Bikes and Blonde Squirrels

I have some kind of sinus/cold thing going on that is driving me crazy, not sure what it is but its got to go. We have too much planned this weekend and I have to preach Sunday so I hope I am 100%. Julianna had a doctors visit today. She had to get her 1yr old shots. They tested her hemoglobian and it was a little low, so the doc want us to increase foods with iron in them into her diet. They should be doing another test at about 15months.

Peyton has been saving up some spare change and such we have had left over for a while. So, I took him to the store and bought him a bike with it. We got him a helmet and all...he feels like he is one of the big kids now. Hard to believe he will be four in January. While at park today we saw something pretty interesting, an AlBino/Blonde squirral. I have never seen one before. I grabbed some pics, will have to share them later. Overall it was a pretty great day.

Daily Jots

I am attempting something new. I am not too consistant at blogging so I thought of a way that may keep me regular. I will shoot a post from my phone via txt message highlighting some of my daily happenings or things that stand out. I figure this may be easier due to the fact that I can do it more convienntly and within boundries. I can send txt from my phone to my blog with no more than 1000 characters so it will make me be more or less brief but still putting out regular posts. It can also help by throwing out an idea for me to post about in detail at a later time. So, this is my new blogging goal that I hope will help me develop a more routine blogging time. Maybe along the way some of my daily happenings can help someone else live out their pursuit with passion. Well, this is my first and I am at the end of my limit so stay tuned for my next update within a day or two.

Keep Looking Ahead By Faith

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward | Hebrews 11:24-26

Moses chose the hard life rather than the convienant due to the fact he was looking beyond where he was to where he was going. This reminds me, sins pleasure is for a short time and leaves one left out of an eternal reward. Choosing your way based on the sake of Christ keeps you looking ahead. So, keep looking ahead by faith not accepting that which is convienant but choose the greater reward.

I am looking forward to a great day. Starting this Sunday Morning I will be filling in with the preaching responsibilities at Hardeeville Church of God, in Hardeeville SC until further notice. It is rather a difficult time for the Church and for my family. My Uncle is the Pastor their and he is taking some time off, a sabbatical if you will, due to the fact my Aunt is battling cancer and is in the final stages. It is definitely a difficult time for everyone right now. Unless something miraculous takes place we will lose her company with us here, but heaven will gain a Gem. I am really praying for wisdom and guidance in preaching while I am filling in like never before.

7 Steps to Create The Copyright Symbol © Easily On A PC

I have always wondered how to incorporate the copyright logo © into a file. In word documents on the PC all you have to do is open parenthesis “(“ then the letter “c” and then close parenthesis “)” and then the space bar and… bam…you get ©. However, on my blog I found it hard to do. After doing some searching I came across a pretty simple way to get this copyright sign onto the clip board where all I have to do is paste it where I need it. For instance, here on my wordpress blog I created a text box widget in the footer and placed the copyright using the following 7 steps.

Step 1

Open the Start menu located at the bottom left of the screen.

Step 2

Click All Programs and then open Accessories

Step 3

Open the folder labeled System Tools

Step 4

Click to open Character Map

Step 5

Double Click Desired Character

Step 6

Click the Copy Button (this copies the character to your clipboard)

Step 7

Open a document, blog post etc. and Right Click the mouse button and Paste your very own copyright symbol © where you need it.

Discussion On Parenting : Discipline And A 3 Year Old

Last night was a first for Chanelle and I. We had to leave church due to Peyton acting out. Unfortunantly there isnt a nursery available on Wednesday nights for the Bible Study so we had to take him home. Sometimes 3yr olds just want to do there own thing and nothing else matters. Kind of reminds me of our relationship with God. We know how we should live and act, but then, we go against what is expected and live out our own way. in return the road is much harder.

That brings me to the subject of discipline. I am sure most parents have said..."WE WONT HAVE THAT KID." Yeah, Chanelle and I have said that too. Now, we have THAT KID.

So how do we respond when discipline is needed? What is the proper way to discipline children in a Godly way?

Filling In

Starting this Sunday I will be filling in at Hardeeville Church of God with the Preaching responsibilities until further notice. It's going to change up my weekly routine just a bit and there are somethings that I was use to having time for that will have to wait in order to make sure I am prepped and ready to go each Sunday. I am thankful to be able to help out but hate the circumstances in which I get to fill in. I am really needing to hear from God over the next few weeks like never before.

A Coffee Pot And Prayer

It was good to have some coffee this morning at the house before I left for work. Last Monday my coffee pot died, but thanks to some awesome friends who gave us a new one I was able to make my own and not purchase it by the cup or didn't have to buy a new coffee maker yet. As I sip on my coffee I am making sure to send some prayers up for them. Thanks Matt and Mindy, continue pursuing.

Sunday Morning Thought

Its a Summer Sunday Morning with alot of things that we could be doing today. We could head to the beach, catch up on some yard work, take the boat out, or even spend the morning getting ready for a family and friend cookout. Or, we could...Head to Church, connect with other believers, see lives changed, and learn how to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ as a corperate body. As much stuff that there is that I would love to do today, I know there is one thing, above others, that I need...Jesus. I wonder how many others are planning their day around Christ. Just a thought.

Jury Duty

Tomorrow will only be my second time to have to report for Jury Duty. They say it is our civil duty as Americans to take part and stand in as Jurors. Our civil duty allows us the opportunity to miss work, and only if our employers are generous will we get paid for being out. However, since we are using our liberty as Americans and being forced to show up or either be held in contempt, at least they are going to give us 10 dollars a day plus milage, insert sarcasim. Dont get me wrong, I really don't mind serving and will go there dressed for success and be proud that I get to take part. It would have been nice if they would have sent my summons to the right address though...yep, it ended up at my previous address but at least it was my Moms house so she was able to get it to me. Now I just need to remember to let them know about the possible mix up and make sure my current address is on file.

A Guys Evening With My Son

Peyton and I enjoyed a guys evening today while Chanelle and Julianna went over to a baby shower at a friends house. The agenda for us was the park downtown and then a stop by burger king for dinner. Never knew I could have so much fun with a three and a half year old, this parenting thing keeps on getting more fun everytime I turn around. However, now as I write this post Peyton has taken over our bed due to the fact he is terrified of storms and it just happens to be thundering. This is another one of those times that as inconvienent as it is at the moment, one day we will look back and wish they were young again. So, instead of wishing he wasnt so afraid I will enjoy the fact he finds safety just being with Mom and Dad.

Back To Real Life

We made it home and lets be honest. Our vacation wasn't nearly long enough... Is it ever? However, it was well needed and worth it. It was great to be around so many people who I can consider friends throughout last week. Our days were busy from swimming, church services, meals, talking, laughing, etc. Now, it is back to real life I guess. Monday starts a brand new work week which I am sure will be filled with backed up work orders for me. Not to mention I will be working four ten hour days but the good news is I will have Friday and Monday off. Something about having to get back to normal is never fun, however, normal is needed too.

Just A Few Things God Is Speaking Into Me This Week

I feel somewhat that this was MY WEEK…There have been a few defining moments where I believe God spoke directly to me through either one of the messages or bible studies at 2010 SCCOG Campmeeting. If I can pick out a few definitive times it would be Tuesday nights message, Wednesday nights message and Thursday mornings bible study. In each of these services I felt God doing something in me that kind of built upon one another. For instance…

Tuesday I was reminded that God knows right where I am at, safe in the pavilion of his arms. Wednesday and Thursday Morning kind of bounced off of each other in that God was teaching me that His will and dream for our life never dies. In particular a message was given out with the exact statement, “What would you do, if You Knew You Could Not Fail.” God reiterated once again he knows right where I am at. Needless to say, this is what I needed personally, spiritually, emotionally, physically in all areas of my life. Can’t wait to grab the CD’s of these service before we leave out on tomorrow and spend some time jotting down some notes over the next few days on some specific areas that I felt God speaking to me.

Enjoying Campmeeting 2010

We are having a great time at Campmeeting 2010 so far. Due to getting time off and money we have made our trip into a little bit of a vacation mixed with Church Retreat. It has been a blast so far. We have done a few things to relax such as hanging at an extremely dear friends house, who opened their doors up so that we could bring the kids over to swim in their pool and catch up. Then we hit a place called Reedy River Falls in Downtown Greenville and lunch at the extraordinary Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakery. We got a few pics that I hope to upload on my photo blog soon.

The services have been amazing. God has really used two of the sermons so far to speak life into my heart and realize that we are not on the wrong track. One of the main things that God is adjusting us to is the fact that we are hid in him and we are going through a preparation period. Sometimes I get anxious and also frustrated thinking that I am forgotten and that nothing will open up but God is hiding me close to him, waiting for His timing when He is ready to do the work through me. My response is, Let it Be. Overall it is a great week and have made some pretty great memories.

Vacation 2010 Day 1

Went to our first service last night of 2010 SCCOG Campmeeting. It was great seeing some folks I haven’t seen in years and reconnecting. Pretty timely message by Bryan Cutshall, on Heaven and the need to be reminded of the things God has built for those who are in Christ and wait for his appearing. One of the things I hope to get out of this week is a definitive call or at least some sort of direction of where we go next as it relates to preparation and full-time ministry. After a waffle provided for by the hotel, and a cup of coffee, Peyton and I will be heading down to the morning Bible Study and then back to pick up Chanelle and Julianna to hang out with some great friends for lunch. Feeling refreshed and relaxed already.

So, Were Headed To Greenville For The Rest Of The Week

Hanging out this morning getting ready to head on to Greenville actually Mauldin to be exact. Looking forward to Campmeeting for the rest of the week. I think the last time we went was in 2004. So needless to say it’s been a while. Campmeeting is our denominations state get together, so to speak. We will have nightly services till Friday, and also a few morning study/services throughout the week. As we get ready to finish up visiting in Columbia this morning I couldn’t help but think of some former campmeeting memories that I have. My Grandfather would go up every year and most times as a kid we would go up with him. What an awesome week we would have with family and friends enjoying part of our summer vacation in Greenville. Not to mention that is the place I received some of my first bookings to speak when I started preaching. It proves to be a great place to connect with other members/churches from within our denomination, and also to meet new people. I am interested to see how things have changed over the past couple of years and to see what sort of things have stayed the same. I will post updates and highlights throughout the week, MAYBE, either here on the blog or either by picture over at my Photo Blog.

The Start To A Great Vacation

What a great Fathers Day. My day started out by speaking at Hardeeville Church Of God. I was filling in for the past three weeks and it just so happened that the final service fell on Father’s Day. Then we made our way to Columbia to stay with family and will be heading to Greenville for our denominations annual State Campmeeting the rest of the week. It feels good to be off work and out on vacation. Chanelle and I were talking and our last official vacation was on our honeymoon close to five years ago. It’s been way to long. I am looking forward to reconnecting with some great friends and making some new connections as the week goes by. It’s going to be busy, but super excited about spending the time with my wife and kids.

By the way, I got a book for Father’s Day that I can’t wait to get started on, will probably read through it this week. It’s called the “Council of Dads” and seems pretty interesting and thought provoking. What a great Fathers Day, I wouldn’t change my life for anything!

Speak Up

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy” | Proverbs 31:8-9

Who will speak up for those that can’t speak for themselves. Who will defend those that cannot defend themselves. We are called as Children of God to be the voice for those who have no voice. Be the provision for those who cannot provide for themselves. We are not to be silent but to Speak Up. There are a few practical examples where I believe each individual can make a huge impact and speak up. How about for those with special needs in the community. How about those mothers and children, even fathers, who are left hurt and alone after a brutal divorce. How about those that have lost their jobs. How about all those opportunities we have on a daily basis on our jobs and community to Speak Up.

In my own experience I have found that at times it can be easier to look the other way, BUT God has not called us to look the other way. We must speak up. If our actions speak louder than words our actions must do the talking. We must speak up with our hands and feet. Don’t choose to look the other way, SPEAK UP. Think about what way’s God may be asking you to speak up for those that you encounter on a daily basis. Next time you encounter the opportunity…Speak Up!

That my life would be…

1) Truthful

| “For as churning the milk produces butter, and as twisting the nose produces blood, so stirring up anger produces strife.” | Proverbs 30: 33 [NIV]

The more you entertain anger you change the original substance from just being angry to a more violent conflict. We must not entertain our anger but have to deal with it in a positive way in order to relieve the conflict. We must resolve to not allow it to escalate to a point of superiority, where we lord our position or point over another person but must consider others better than ourselves.

Sometimes I Act The Part Of A Fool

Sometimes I have the habit of acting the part of a fool and it’s not a good thing. This morning as I was reading Proverbs I was pricked just a bit. At times pressure gets to me and I can fly off the handle. For example, take the trip up to Sumter and an experience I had with a cup of coffee. Long story short, my wife brought me out a cup of coffee from the store, It wasn’t the right size. They failed to fix it the way I asked for it, and they put a frozen drink lid on the cup of to go coffee. I was hot, I get a little ticked when someone asks me what I want, I tell them, then they proceed to get it completely wrong. (BTW…I wasn’t angry at my wife, but the people fixing the drink who failed to fix it how she asked..) But, we all make mistakes don’t we… I REALLY need to remember this.

So, in the parking lot I expressed my dissatisfaction about the coffee in a rant in which one of the individuals that were with us asked the question… “do you think if there were non-Christians around, a positive example would have been set, and could it have opened up to conversation about Christ.” OUCH… Okay I was wrong, I eventually apologized to those that were around me when I blew up because of a wrong lid, and failed order….STUPID thing to get upset about in the first place. Luckily we were in the parking lot my little outburst was only around the people in my party and not directed at any of the staff to their face, but really does it matter who our outburst are around, if it’s your friends or strangers.

Don’t act the part of a fool. Thanks God for the reminder…

Heading out this weekend to celebrate Riley’s 5th Birthday in Sumter. Can’t wait for a bit of a getaway…Then Monday the shop has the day off so it will be a day around the house. I can’t believe Riley is five already. Man how time flies. My little niece is growing up. Seems like yesterday we were at her first birthday party and I was able to be the first to witness her taking her first steps. Great times. One thing about it, we never grow younger…only older.

Rambling Mind List

Feeling a bit overwhelmed…need a break of sort. To clear my mind, identify distractions, and get direction.

Really need to set up a schedule for reading, planning, devo’s.

My attitude has been off for the past few days. Short with co-workers, kiddo’s, and Chanelle. Everything gets on my nerves.

Need to put more work into our future goals, spend time dreaming and planning.

I don’t like my job, it is draining. Not hard work, and it is a great job. Time demands are low, and not really a stressful environment. The draining part isn’t the work or the place, it’s the fact its not my passion. Oh to be able to do what I love. That’s where the work needs to be put on the previous statement and the steps made, and connections strengthened to get to that place.

A League Of Your Own

A League Of Your Own is the statement one of the Judges said about Crystal Bowersox, one of the final two on this season of American Idol. I haven’t kept up with the competition this year with the exception of a few shows at the beginning and the final sing off between the last two contestants tonight. However, the first time I heard Crystal Bowersox sing in the start of the season I felt she would be the one to beat. She had determination, purpose, and she was herself. She didn’t change throughout. For so many in these types settings you end up seeing a different person in the end than who they were in the beginning. It’s almost like you see Minnie me’s of other artists or trends. A League of Your Own is what I feel should be the characteristic of a disciple of Christ. He is to be our example and our life is to be hid in Christ. We are not to conform to pattern of this world, but instead be transformed [Rom12.1-2]. I believe that transformation is a transformation to the image of Christ which will ultimately bring us into a League of our own… Not to get caught up in the trends or be like everyone else in the Christian community but instead, just be ourselves. Who God created us to be, in the image of His Son. There is nothing wrong with learning from others but we are not made to be them. Be different, be unique, let it be said of you, that you were in a League of Your Own.

Moments Create Movements

I am excited about speaking to the student leadership group for Ethos tonight at 6:30. They are otherwise known as the Core. They are a super sharp group of adult leaders who love investing in the lives of students as well as super sharp student leaders who are helping to shape the lives of their fellow students. I will be bringing my text out of Ephesians 5: 15-17 - Be very careful then how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most out of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. I am titling it Moments Create Movements. Those ordinary moments in our lives have the opportunity to be the birthplace of a movement. Every opportunity could be the start of something big. I personally feel that the movement doesn’t create leaders...leaders are born when they take hold of an opportunity which leads to the start of a movement. Don’t mistake celebrities with leaders, leaders do not celebrate themselves but are servants who celebrate and pour in the lives of others. Moments Create Movements…

Video Shoot

I am doing a first this evening. I have been asked to be part of a short video shoot for a friend of mine, Shane, for their youth ministry, Ethos. It's kind of an exciting thing to be able to tell my story and how through volunteering with them for close to two years helped me chase after what I felt God was leading me to as it relates to being a credentialed minister and pursuing full time ministry. Even though our journey has taken us away from the ministry there, they hold a huge spot in my heart. It's cool to be able to "do" ministry with people from other churches and organizations. Personally I feel that is what kingdom work is all about, branching out. Needless to say, I am excited.

Monday Lag

Wow, i am wiped out today. But, its a good wiped. After speaking in both the 11am and 6pm service yesterday i am feeling the lag today. I am pretty sure that when I go into full time pastoral ministry Mondays will be my day away with my wife and kids to relax and recoup from the busy weekend of speaking and pouring out. As much as I would like to slow down and gel for a while today that is not possible due to job obligations, but it would be nice. By the way, there is no words to express how pumped I am even though I am worn out, about the connections and life change that was made yesterday in the lives of those that attended the services. I really cant wait to do this full time!

Holy Interruptions

I like Holy interruptions, I feel we had one of those in service this morning. One of those times where it was needed just to sing the chorus one more time and focus solely on God. I love those times because it reminds you of who is in charge. I want to continually be open to those Holy interruptions. So much can be done in those few minutes where God takes over and peoples worship is filled with Gods Spirit. Holy interruptions are so intimate and rejuvenating. It is my hope that I am always open and sensitive to those Holy interruptions. I think they are needed, but are lacking in most of our lives and Churches.

Ask More Questions

Sometimes I find myself asking questions regarding my faith, doctrine, etc. Simple questions like, why do I believe the way I do, is it out pure conviction or is it just what I have been told to belive since I was a child. Is it because I believe it is absolutly true. I think it is okay to ask those questions because it keeps us searching. You see, when I question I go straight to the book that holds the answers to my faith. I pose those questions, write them down, and the search out the scripture to see how that lines up with what I am asking at the moment. Overall I think asking questions are a good thing. It keeps us ever learning and ever growing. I like the attitude of the disciples, they were always asking Jesus questions. So don't stop asking, because it will keep you searching.

You’ve Got To Sleep In Order To Dream

I listened to a radio program from Focus On the Family today. The guest they were interviewing talked about sleep and how it helps the body, rest/sleep is a growing mechanism for our body. The subject of dreams came up and it was stated that we need dream sleep. Far to many people do not get enough sleep, therefore they are not dreaming when they sleep. Simply put, you need to be in a deeper state of sleep in order to dream, but, far to many individuals never get to the state of sleep for dreaming due to the fact we don't sleep for long periods of time. The amount of sleep we get a night is far to short to get to the place of dreaming. The speaker used the illustration that when we dream it is similar to the defrag process on a computer. With all that said, I don't think we dream enough. In order to dream we must slow down and get more sleep. Spiritual implication, I think the reason we are not seeing more God sized dreams for our life is because we don't slow down and get rest in his Prescence. We spend way to short of time in prayer, and His word to get into His rest that sparks dreams or visions into our life. I want to dream more both physically and spiritually. The more you are at rest, the more you dream. The more you dream, the more you are rejuvinated. Maybe we aren't growing because we lack the rest needed in order to dream.

Dont Only Relay What We Shouldnt Do Relay What We Should Be Doing

What would it look like if we were known more for what were FOR rather than what were AGAINST. I have taken seat in church services where the Pastor has rightly stated what we as Christians are NOT to do but failed to communicate what TO do. Its almost as if we have assumed that when we tell our congregation what not to do, they would in return just automatically know what to do. I think that allows people to know what not to do while still doing the wrong thing.

For instance, Paul wrote to the Colossians in Chapter 3 on the Personal Conduct of Christians. In verse 5-9 he discussed what shouldn't be done/lived out in the Christians life, but he didn't stop there. In verse 12-15 he discussed what to do or how the Christians conduct should be. It is my desire that our preaching would be like that. Don't leave the hearers hanging just on what NOT TO DO but show them what TO DO. Don't assume that since they know what not to do, they would automatically know what to do. May others see more of what were for, as opposed to what were against.

5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Steadfast

I was looking for a verse this morning and typed in the wrong reference and came across this verse. Instead of just flowing across it to the original one I was looking up I began reflecting on it.

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me - Psalm 51:10

Steadfast stood out to me in particular so I did a quick word search to find the definition and this is what I came up with. Steadfast is defined as...firmly fixed in place, immovable,not subject to change, firm in belief, determination, or adherence, loyal. The term faithful would be synonomus with steadfast.

Sometimes our Spirit begins to shake and wonder along the journey. Things happen, people come and go, our own mistakes cause us to back up a little bit. The psalmist makes a great observation and proclamation. I can't do it on my own, God I need you to create in me a clean heart. I need you to renew or re-energize a spirit within me that is unshakable, immovable, firm in the belief of who you are, a spirit that is loyal to you. What a powerful plea. The kicker about this, God will do it. No matter what rocks you to the very core of who you are, God's Spirit can and will renew your Spirit.

The First Day Of The Last 6 Weeks On The Job

Chanelle and I have been talking for sometime, over a year or so, about the possibility of her staying home full time with the kids. Since having kids, her heart is not in her job, but in raising a family. Finally, we feel that it is the right timing... Well, actually, its not the right timing. I don't know that anytime is the right time. However, we have counted the cost and realize that it is pretty much a faith move. Things will be tight as far as income goes but it is manageble. It will mean some adjustments when it comes to spending and wants, but she will begin to move into what she is passionate about, being a stay at home mom and wife. I am so thankful for her heart and her faith. More importantly we feel that it will for sure help us start moving towards some of our future goals. Pretty much this is a move that we have counted and have put off but realize more now than ever, its going to take faith to do what God has called us to do. So today, is the first day of her last six weeks at her job. That's exciting and there is a peace about us that she is doing the right thing.

Leaving Rock Hill

We had a great weekend. Heading back from Rock Hill, after speaking at two services at Friendship Church of God. Lee Ayers has done a great job as Pastor and feel humbled to be able to personally call him friend. After speaking in the Saturday Night Service and this morning I am beat. Even though the trip has tired us out a bit I love traveling and speaking.

Friendship COG has a great heart and is doing a great job to reach their community. From being in a single wide trailer to a permanent facility they have come a long way. It was great to make connections and can't wait to see what God does among the church in the coming days. They really went out of there way to make us feel welcomed and was very receptive to the word. The way the took care of my family and I, from the room to the meals, speaks volumes about their heart and willingness to serve. What an awesome community of believers.

8 Years Since I’ve Traveled To Speak

Its been close to eight years since I have traveled for a speaking engagement. It really doesn't seem that long, but I guess it has. In 2002 I went on staff as youth pastor and didn't due to much outside speaking engagements so yeah, close to 8 years since I've been on the road solely to speak. Excited about the opportunity and also excited to try and get out there on the road again for some services here and there.

We will be speaking in two services at Friendship Church of God in Rock Hill, SC. My good friend Lee Ayers is the Lead Pastor and I am excited about the opportunity hang with his family for a bit before tonights service. The difference about this trip and the earlier ones 8 years ago is that now my wife and kiddo's are with me. It used to be me alone headed to these things only with the thought of one day having a family to share the experience with. WOW!!!

Not A Good Start This Morning

I normally don't get headaches. Well its not that I don't get them, its just not an often occurrence but this morning has been somewhat different. I woke up and my head was throbbing. Pretty much to the point that it was nausuating. It's weird. There's points of throbbing then nothing, when I turn my head a certain way it throbs, when I turn it back it stops and it is just mainly on one side of my head. Up around the right temple area. Anyways, it has kinda wiped me out this morning.

A Complete Blank

Not much of anything has been going through my mind the past few days. Just a blank. Maybe its due to some of the things going on around me, maybe because I am getting geared up to go out of town this weekend and speak. The reason why is beyond me, its all blank. Do they call this a thought drought, is there anything to be learned or taken away from it? If there is anything at all, I want it. I hate having blank thoughts. Maybe it is a season of refreshing, maybe God is clearing out some stuff so I can just hear more of Him. Are you done yet God, it would be nice to hear, feel, or think of something. Maybe, hopefully, the canvas of my thoughts are being cleared and coming up blank for something awe inspiring that can help someone else. Just Maybe!

My Calling

I feel that God is doing something crazy wild in our lives at the moment. I have an unsettledness and expectancy for something big. To be quite honest, I feel it is to go into Pastoring. Where, I don't know. When, that is to be determined but for now there is a peace that God is leading us in that direction. I feel it is my calling. For me, it takes me out of my safety zone in a way. There is much I don't know, much I wonder about but at the same time there is a peace that this is the path that God has for me. So, as God opens the door I will follow. Until then I will keep on praying, plugging away, and pushing to do the work God has me doing currently.

30 Thousand Just Sitting In The Attic

I heard a wild story on the radio. Some guy made 30+ thousand dollars, yes I said 30+ thousand dollars from a video game. He went up to his attic and found an old game called Air Raid. Air Raid was one of the games to the original Atari system of which I know nothing about. It was way before my time. Anyhow, He took the mint condition game, put it on e-bay and...BAM, it sold for over 30 thousand dollars. For someone that game was a treasure and they were willing to give up a lot of money for it. I think I am going to dig through my attic tonight. I wonder how much 24yr old insulation will sell for. Mint condition of course.

When My Passion And His Presence Collide

God's presence is beyond extraordinary, and God has wired us for His purpose. There are passions within us that I believe are God given unctions that bring us joy when we have the opportunity to do them. I believe that God wants to ignite our passions with His Presence in order to do great things for Him. No matter what it is you love to do, God has placed that love within us and wants us to do those things in order to do His will. Think about it, what if we allowed our God ordained passions to be directed by His prescence. How many lives would be touched and changed. This is one area that I want God to have full control. I want His presence to collide with my passions in order to do extraordinary things for His Glory.

You’ve Been In The Sun

The signs are all over Peyton's face that he was out in the sun yesterday. His cheeks aren't burnt but they are a little red. His face shows the effect of being exposed to the sun if even but for a short period of time. There is a spiritual implication in this. The exposure to God and Jesus Christ through His word has the same effect. The longer you are exposed to him the more it will show. I firmly believe that your face will show it as well. It doesn't matter the circumstances around you, or what situation you find yourself in. Exposure to God will shine through you. Your face will show it. I wonder at times if my face is a sure indicator of how often I spend time with God. Can others see via my look, that I have been alone with Him. I want others to see that God is working in and through me and that I have spent time with Him when they come into contact with me.

One of the common questions I believe we tend to ask ourselves would be, "WHY?". Why do certain things happen, Why do we feel alone, Why does it always seem as if no one cares? Whatever comes after your Why is in no doubt important to you. I am not trying to neglect the importance of your why, I am only asking a question myself. Why Not? What is God wanting to reveal to me through my situations. How does God want me to depend on Him. Will I ultimatly be made stronger and grow in the likeness of Christ through my circumstances. Whatever the Why, I want to ask myself Why Not? What does God want to do in me through this.

Peyton's Day

Chanelle and I did something a little different today. We chose to have a Peyton Day. We took the day off work and Peyton went with us to Charleston to visit the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point. We felt that Peyton needed to have some mommy and daddy time just for himself. Since Julianna's birth close to 9 months ago we haven't made time just for him. It was fun and different. Julianna stayed at the house with our Aunt and we made everything about Peyton. I think it did him good. At almost three and a half I think he needed that. His world has changed in the last nine months just as much as ours have. Even though we have one family, each of our kiddos have different needs and we are working towards making sure those needs are met on a family scale as well as an individual basis.

Overall it was a great day, we had a blast. Peyton enjoyed seeing the submarine, aircraft carrier and all the planes that are on it. One of the highlights of the day was when Peyton got to sit in the cockpit of one of the jets. He sat down, looked around, fiddled with a few of the instruments and then said, "Okay daddy I need the keys."

After The Shock

In no doubt my heart was heavy after hearing the shock that not only my Pastor but my friend would be resigning yesterday. With the wide range of emotions and the response which was displayed from all in attendance I dealt with a variety of emotions myself. After spending some time in prayer and silence I began to think of ways that I cope and ways that I should respond after the shock. Here are some thoughts and actions that I have put into place. God is in control. Even though we may not understand all things at all times, God does not and has not forsaken anyone or His Church. My Pastor was more than just my Pastor, he was my friend. He and his wife have done so much in helping to build my faith and through this transition I want to be here for them. That means picking up the phone and letting them know we are praying for them and will continue to support them throughout the move and whatever their future path has in store. Even sending encouragement via facebook or whatever other means that we can. I am here for my fellow church members. Just as I am processing this, the rest of the church is as well. So that means I am to encourage other believers through this transition. Even though the shock hasn't quite settled yet, we must keep our heart focused, unity intact, and stay on board the ship. Overall, I will miss my friend and his wife and even though I don't understand everything and a ton of questions are racing through my mind, I know they loved the Church and everyone in it. They have had, and continue to have the best intentions, not only for the church, but also for their family. That is true leadership and I will miss them.

An Armor Bearer Worth Having

Everyone needs one and having one of worth is few and far between. I hope that as I journey through life I am found to be an Armor Bearer worth having and that I am surrounded with Armor Bearers of worth. Here are a few thoughts that I have about armorbearers. They care about you first, your personal growth and development in the faith. If they see something that may in the long run cause you to stumble, they come to you first and identify it and help take steps to see you succeed. They care less about their personal gain and agenda and more about what is best for you. When troubles come and mistakes are made they protect you at all cost, you can trust them. There are more qualities that can be added but overall, I want to be an armor bearer worth having.

Attending A Wedding Makes Me Reflect

We get to be attend an awesome ceremony this afternoon. Two of our fellow Church members are tying the knot. I love being able to attend weddings, especially when Chanelle is with me. Through the whole ceremony I can't help but to be reminded our our own ceremony. Memories come flooding back of our start a little over 5yrs ago. What a memory, what a life, and what a marriage we have. I love these times of reflection.

They Look Up To Me

I was looking down at my family from a tower with a slide at the park today. For just a moment Peyton stopped and jumped up beside Chanelle for this shot. I wish that I had a better camera with me at the time but my blackberry seemed to work out. This shot helps to remember that My wife and kids look up to me. I need to make sure I am there for them and keep my motives and priorities in line. What a great family I have, and an awesome responsibility too.

Taking A Slow Down Today

Just hanging out today. Decided on breakfast with friends then made a quick trip by the park, sipped on a turtle and watched Peyton play for a bit. Wow, Peyton is getting big and more independant. Glad to have a bit of a slow down this weekend. The next couple of weeks are going to be super busy, with the speaking engagement on the 24-25 and next weekend I will be doing some last minute prep for that. Stoked about taking Peyton to Charleston on Monday for a visit to the USS Yorktown, can't wait.

The Lost Art Of Prescence

Don't underestimate the value and impact that presence can have on a situation. When words can't be spoken presence speaks volumes.

I'll admit, I have lost the art of practicing presence at times. For instance, we may settle for making a call when we hear a friend is in need or they face a life changing circumstances. We may settle for mailbox talk and well wishes instead of walking over to our neighbors house and helping them out when we see that they are forced to move out due to foreclosure. What about choosing to settle by sending flowers to someone who is hurt instead of driving to see them. None of these gestures are wrong because they have their place and I also know that sometimes miles separate us from those that are in need and physical presence is not an option at the time.

I have seen that what I have going on ranks higher on the priority list than simply going, being around people, and offering support. I have settled, and that's a bad thing. I also know that I am one that wants and feels the need to offer "words" that will encourage and build up, or help out the situation. When I feel I don't have the proper words I will choose to stay away. Let's be honest, sometimes words are not enough in some situations and simple gestures can't bring comfort. I have found the Art Of Presence can always bring comfort. Just being there speaks louder to an individual than anything you can ever say or do. Make a choice to practice the fading art of presence. Don't allow yourself to settle for just gestures when you can offer the most valuable thing you have, your time. Practice the Lost Art Of Presence.

I Don't Mind Loosing An Hour

It comes around once a year. We loose and hour of sleep. Some complain, and cant stand the thought of moving the clocks ahead an hour. Me on the other hand, I don't mind it. It's not really a loss, I see it as a gain. I may loose an hour of sleep but I get to gain an hour of daylight and will be able to enjoy it with my kids in the evening outside during the week. You see, it does have its perks. By the way, if we would have used the hour we gained about 4mo ago wisely, we would have no problem loosing the hour now. Take a moment and think about all the ways you will be able to invest in your kids during the week now that you have that extra hour of daylight.

...An hour of sleep lost now, is the chance to make a ton of memories tomorrow.

Licensed Minister

This morning I am being presented with and Exhorters License through our denomination. Five years ago I took it upon myself to step down from a full-time Youth Pastor's position due to moral failure that I felt was unbecoming of me leading in that position. As a result of my sin, I also had to surrender my ministerial credintials and turn them back into our denomination. It has been five years almost to the day. Through the past five years, I have grown in many ways and also had many set backs. The set backs and hurt has helped me to grow in a way that I never would have had I not been honest with myself, my relationship with God, and done the right thing.

This is pretty exciting day to say the least. Its never to late to do what God is leading you to do. His call is without repentence.

Recording Thoughts, My Problem With Keeping A Journal

Journaling is a great thing to get in the habit of doing. Journaling can be for everyone. It is a place where in no doubt you can just be yourself. You write for you. Whatever is going on in your head and life at the moment. For most, what is written down in peoples journals we don't want anyone to ever read. Having a journal is a way to record your journey and can give awesome feedback if you go back and read through it from time to time. I have a problem with journaling.

I have a journal that I received over 5 years ago and haven't even written enough to fill it up. I get distracted when writing and have a loss of thoughts when I begin jotting down notes. I want to be regular because one day I would like to pass my handwritten thoughts to my children. I want it to be able to help them in their life to know some of the deepest struggles that I have faced and how God has helped me overcome them. I want them to be able to reflect on times that I have seen as monumental. But I won't have that to pass on if I don't write.

What are some guiding points that have helped you in your journaling? What is the process you use and how has it benefitted your pursuit? How can I develop a better journaling process?

Sunday Recap : The History of the Bible

Yesterday we took the day and visited with our Tidal Creek Fellowship family. They started a new series called TXT and the first message in the series was the History of the Bible. I personally felt it was a home run. David did a great job outlining the first recording of scripture from the 10 commandments to how the written word made it to our hands.

Sometimes we can get caught up in how our particular Church or Denomination made it to where we are while forgetting where we, as THE CHURCH, came from. It reignited a passion for God's word seeing the list of reformers that gave their life just so the Word of God could get to us. People like the John Wyclifs, Martin Luthers, and a host of other reformers that paid the ultimate price to see the word of God get to everyday people.

Some of the thoughts that ran through my mind are, "what if the Bible was illegal to be carried or distributed in our country. What if only one religious group, particular denomination, or church had possesion of the Word. What if it was my life, or the Bible." Would I still defend its truth and authenticity if it meant my life. It was a gut check for me and a reminder that we have a living, active, and life changing message within our possesion that others need to hear. It also gave me a renewed respect and reverence for the Word of God.

My lunch time is a non-negotiable for me. I get a thirty minute lunch break in my day and I normally eat real quick then see what is going on in the twitterverse and maybe jot down some notes, or a blog post of some of the stuff rolling around in my head. This is one of those posts.

As I was eating I looked down at my I'd Badge that my company provided for me. Mine is a bit different than everyone elses, simply because I have a huge grin on my face. Matter of fact, my drivers license is the same. Most peoples I'd Badge or License is nothing more than the looks of a mug shot. There frowning and you can tell they would rather be somewhere else other than behind the camera.

You could say I like camera's. I mean I don't mind them, if you wanna take my picture sure, I am up for that. And,you can bet I am smiling. Why do I smile for the badge pic or license you may ask. Well, it is quite simple, I am a pretty up beat guy. I love life and I want you to not only see that in person but also from my badge. I want you to know I love life.

On a second note, maybe the individual looking at my badge or license missed the smile on my face in front of them and they need one. They will see that dorky, loving life grin and it just may bring a smile to their face. Not to mention, it is a great conversation starter when asked, "why in the world are you smiling in that pic.". It gives me a chance to let them know the real reason I have something to smile about. God loves me, Jesus saved me, I love life, therefore iSMILE!

Defining Moment

Everyone has a defining moment in their life. It may come through pain, joy, or in some other form. It is a moment that causes you to think about where you are going and what you are doing.

My moment came in late 2008. It wasn't a loud audible voice but deep down I knew it would change the course of my life as I knew it. It would cause me to evaluate where I was at in life and what I wanted to become. As I read that David was a man after God's heart I knew what God was asking of me. To live my life in passionate pursuit of Him. While I have spent the better part of a year seeking what that may look like I still don't know the details, but one thing I do know, "I must live a Life Of Pursuit." The pursuit of knowing Him and making Him Known. The pursuit of dying to myself and living for Christ. The pursuit to help others in their journey to be all that they can be for God. Let's be honest, the pursuit doesn't offer great riches, a prominent name, or even a life free of pain or heartache. What it offers is much more.

The life of pursuit has taught me to be greatful of what I have, all my needs are supplied for. Who I am rest in the fact of who God is and who he is molding me to be. When pain or heartache come I have a place I can go that speaks comfort and calmness to any situation.

My defining moment came when I felt I was being called to simply live out the pursuit. That is what I want my life to speak my personal mantra if you will. A Life Of Pursuit.

Nobody Likes A Fake

The best thing you can do for yourself and other is to Just Be You. No matter if it is in person or through your writings online or in print. Nobody Likes A Fake.

From my time online I have noticed a trend. I may be wrong, and this may be nothing more than a rant, but it is easy to get blog hits when you are blogging what everyone else is blogging. A lot of people are tweeting and blogging the same thing. For instance I read a tweet that gave a link to a post that was well informative and by reading and watching the video I was moved. I retweeted the link in order to get the word out. However, I noticed over time a number of individuals were writing individual posts on the same topic using the same video's and then pushing their own site out there. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it just made me think about my own blog and what I write.

Why not just ReTweet the original link and leave your thoughts on the original post to create and engage in conversation on the original authors blog. Wouldn't that create community online? Or is your purpose to get people to just hear you, instead of promoting others? Just a personal thought.

If you look through my blog, Life Of Pursuit, you will most likely find that I have done the same thing in the past and of that I stand guilty. But, in my defense I have made a change. As I began to think and ponder more and more about my blog and online community, I want to be known for originality and what God is doing in my life in order to strengthen others in their daily pursuit. If there is something on another site or blog I don't want to re-write what has already been posted. I want to give credit and direct your attention to the original place I gained insight.

I guess what I am trying to say is, don't be fake, Be Original. Give credit where credit is due and build community by your originality and passion, not by getting blog hits from someone elses passion.

Dealing With Anxiety

I wanted to share with you one of the thoughts that I brought out in the message this past Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Beaufort Church of God.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7

Anxiety has a way of slipping in our lives causing you to wonder and doubt why you are here, and will stop you from accomplishing your full potential. Living with anxiety is not Gods will for your life. One of the sure ways to never get over anxiety is to fail to turn to God. You cannot get over it on your own. Sometimes other people can add to the anxiety by the focusing on the WHAT IF instead of the GOD CAN.

Anxiety can be caused by circumstances from within or outward circumstances that have a way of creeping into your life. No matter the cause of your anxiety, there is a cure. We must bring all of our care to God. By prayer, petetion, and thanksgiving we are to make our request known to God. When that is done His peace, which goes beyond all our understanding and limitations, will guard our hearts and minds to get beyond the anxiety and walk in a way that fulfills his purpose instead of being trapped by our anxiety. It is also a testimony to others of His perfect peace over our lives.
